Latest from the chairman

Wednesday 28th October
Today the CCBC site received 1000 applications for Grants in the first hour and stood up to the pressure well. The key issues appear
to be where forms have been incomplete or completed incorrectly. Where
people have telephoned the office they have been logged with they're
query and will be responded to chronologically.
I have also attended a meeting of UKH Cymru this evening where
discussions were had over the progress towards reopening on 9th
november.
The statement today that Pubs and Restaurants will be open on 9th
November is accepted to mean that Hotels, guesthouses etc will also be
open from 9th with full services across Wales. The discussion about
whether English tourists will be allowed back is of course then all
about what tier level they reside in and is not one for Welsh
government. Track and Trace will remain as a requirement for businesses
to complete as will 2m social distancing.
Discussions towards the reopening new rules of living are being
had and the first point which appears to have been made is that a 10pm
curfew will still be in place after reopeneing mainly because the civil
servants in all 4 nations are now trying to get a unified approach and
set of rules across the UK. There are some concerns that Paris has set a
standard for restaurants closing at 6pm and that time has been mentioned
more than once in recent discussions so we need to mitigate those
arguments. We are putting forward arguments for retaining 10pm curfew
across all sectors with 1m + with mitigating measures and Hotels being
able to function in all areas for residents only with confidence of
continuity of requirements for our customers across the UK. We are
arguing that we are a regulated space with well established processes to
combat infections. We will be pushing for a Task Group to be established
to look at social distancing and what is effective and remove from
society what is not. We are also going to push on Track and Trace being
the means by which we can safely trade with more than groups of 6 with
measures and ensure that groups get to meet and socialise in controlled
environments.
We are highlighting that the public are losing confidence in the
rationale for measures which appear based on unfounded science such as
essential items fiasco and that we need simple believable rules which
get the confidence of the public resulting in acceptance and compliance,
removing the need for us to be 'Police'. We do however need our members
and operators to start voicing their frustrations directly themselves to
MP's AM's etc about the chopping and changing of rules, the introducing
of regulations without perceived foundation in Fact and Hard sceience
and the economic impact that this is having. We are receiving grant
support which may help us to Survive but in No Way Thrive through the
Pandemic as we have been SHUT by Government and NOT by the Virus as our
track record since reopening proves. We also note here in Llandudno that
it's not the Virus stopping people from travelling it's the Government.
we are the Solution to the infection rising and not the Problem causing
the rise.
