Comments after the latest UKH meeting attended by the Chairman
Key financial information for the promised support will be announced
next week by the Chancellor in his budget apparently so we may well hear
about an extension of the current support measures such as Rates and
Furlough.
We are now going to be pushing harder at Cardiff to ensure that we get
the same timetable as Westminster so that we do not have the confusion
that we experienced last year. Therefore we are pushing for Outdoor
Hospitality to open from 12th April which has not been announced yet by
Cardiff and self catering, with Indoor Hospitality opening with the rule
of 6 and Table Service from 17/5 and then ALL restrictions lifted on
21/6 with the exception of night clubs needing to be reviewed, so no
social distancing and no trading restrictions of any kind.
The best news for us is that the First Minister has stated that he
wants a reduction in the measures being applied to businesses in the
time from now to June and to permit businesses to ensure the safety of
guests not regulatory instructions which cause more confusion.
Welsh Government has agreed that they have money still available to be
distributed and there will be an announcement made this week about
financial support for the larger Businesses which have received little
or no support so far this year.
There are gaps between release stages in the roadmap which we need to
consider may result in a slippage of the dates for each restriction
being lifted however we look like we can start planning for these dates
in Wales as well as England.
There is a body of support within Cardiff that the creation of a
Hospitality and Tourism Minister at Cabinet level is warranted by the
importance of the industry to the economy as seen this last 12 months
which is a big positive conversation for us as well. Not been agreed yet
but there was general agreement that this is required.
