Important information regarding accessing the Job Support Scheme

richardscamans • Oct 30, 2020

Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).

Dear Berin,

The Job Support Scheme (JSS) operates from Sunday 1 November. In order to access the scheme, you must have an agreement in place with employees joining the scheme – you cannot claim for a staff member until the date that this is in place. To facilitate this, UKHospitality has enlisted the help of employment law specialist, Boyes Turner, who have developed template letters for the JSS-Open and JSS-Closed schemes which meet the application criteria as they currently stand. You can download the templates here.

The JSS is accessible to businesses in all tiers/levels across the UK. There is a JSS-Open for those that do not legally have to close and JSS-Closed for those that do. Under both schemes, businesses will also be able to receive the Job Retention Bonus - £1,000 for each furloughed staff member on the books at the end of January. Businesses will have to pay employer National Insurance Contributions and relevant pension payments.

Employees must agree to the restriction in their working hours and cease working for at least 7 consecutive calendar days.

The JSS replaces the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), also known as furlough. The CJRS will close on 31st October 2020, with ALL claims needing to be made by 30th November.

For more information regarding the JSS scheme, please see our briefing document here.

Further details on the operation of the JSS are due to be published by Government today and we will be creating an FAQ on this topic as soon as we can (hopefully Saturday). Should you have any questions which are not covered by the FAQs, please email CV19@ukhospitality.org.uk. Our team will then review your question and add a response to the FAQs as soon we have clarification from Government.

Kind regards
The UKHospitality Team
