UK Hospitality update

Please lobby your AM for help for Hospitality Sector

UKH has been working tirelessly to help hospitality businesses get
through the COVID-19 crisis. Through our exhaustive lobbying efforts, we
have achieved some great successes including financial support packages,
protection for members on business rates, tax deferrals and a moratorium
on rent forfeitures and got hospitality workers designated as key
workers.

As part of our latest effort on a return to business, we will be
launching our #Fair4Hospitality campaign [3] tomorrow which calls on
Government to be #FAIR4Hospitality and support
the industry's roadmap to restart. I am writing to enlist your support
on this crucial campaign.

Lockdown, while entirely justified, has kept our customers and staff at
home, isolated from friends and family, often unable to earn a living.
More than 2 million hospitality jobs are furloughed, and the supply
chain is threatened with further damage – these jobs are at risk.
While venues remain closed, the costs keep piling up.

With the Prime Minister setting out a roadmap for the sector to restart
and proposals soon to emerge in Scotland, and with Wales in the process
of developing its proposals, the #FAIR4Hospitality campaign outlines
four primary areas in which Government can deliver for Britain and allow
hospitality to play a leading role in the recovery:

    * WELLBEING: Endorse our best-practice guidelines and risk assessments
for a COVID Secure restart

    * WORKERS: Ensure the furlough scheme is retained at full rate for
hospitality until businesses successfully restart

    * COMMUNITIES: Regulate to provide a ‘National Time Out’ on rent
payments for the remainder of the year and a solution to address debt
and costs for business
      * CONSUMERS: Cut the rate of VAT for hospitality businesses to help
boost confidence and incentivise visits to tourist destinations.

To deliver fairness for all we need all stakeholders – including
insurers, landlords and banks - to play a part.

COVID19 SECURE GUIDELINES FOR HOSPITALITY BUSINESSES

As part of the #Fair4Hospitality campaign asks, we have submitted our
COVID19 Secure Guidelines for hospitality businesses to ministers for
endorsement, which emphasise that the sector needs the flexibility to
operate safely and should not be constricted by a one-size-fits-all
approach given the diversity of businesses covered.

We have developed these guidelines together with a number of our members
and stakeholders. These have been tailored to individual sub-sectors,
covering; accommodation, coffee shops, food service management, holiday
parks, late night, pubs, quick-service restaurants and visitor
attractions.

As a member, we are providing you with a sneak peek ahead of their
publication tomorrow.

SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN

It is important to make MPs, AMs and MSPs aware of the campaign asks to
help us gain support within Government. We hope that you will support
our campaign by writing to your local MP, AM or MSPs and share our
campaign message.

To help members get involved and influence government decisions, we have
prepared a template letter for you to send, which you can find on the
#Fair4hospitality campaign page. We will also be launching a video and
other social media assets that you may wish to share with your social
media network to help amplify our message.

Thank you for your continued and ongoing support. Together we can
ensure hospitality survives.
