Urgent survey for UK Hospitality

We are a quarter through yet another lockdown in England and while Government has offered a package of support we recognise this does not go far enough and would like to assure members that we are continuing with our campaigning and lobbying efforts on key ongoing issues such as rent, VAT, grants, business rates and the Jobs Retention Bonus - pushing for clarity of a speedy statement to clarify and allow redress.
To assist us with our efforts and conversations with Governments across the nations, we are asking for your input to help us form a robust narrative across the industry. Together with the BII and BBPA we are asking members to complete this short survey, which will help to build a picture of the current situation and provide evidence for the need for further Government support across hospitality and its supply chain.

As part of our lobbying, this week we wrote to the Prime Minister on one of our more immediate calls on Government for a safe and sociable return of hospitality once we can reopen on 3 December. In the letter we pressed for a long term roadmap to recovery for hospitality businesses with an exit strategy from current restrictions and an essential package of financial support. We reiterated hospitality’s ability to help the economy recover, as purported by the recent ONS GDP statistics which suggested a 2% growth during in August when hospitality was making use of the EOTHO scheme.
However, for hospitality to play its part businesses will need to plan and to understand how Christmas trading will be affected by the tiers that we expect to be reintroduced. We are therefore impressing upon Government the need for changes to the restrictions placed upon hospitality businesses, whilst still enabling us to keep staff and customers safe. We have recommended changes around household groups and closure times. In addition, as a priority, we have urged Government to provide hospitality venues with as much notice as possible to allow for adequate preparation time.
